Hyderabad, India – Solunus Inc., a leading provider of Salesforce services, organized a program to provide 50 tablet computers loaded with digital learning materials to hearing-impaired students. The program was organized by the Dallas, Texas, USA headquartered company in association with the Pennam Foundation and Kairos Technologies. Sri Koppula Eshwar, honorable minister for Scheduled Castes Development, Minority Welfare, and Senior Citizen Welfare, Government of Telangana, was the chief guest at the event. Smt. Bharati Hollikeri IAS, Special Secretary and Commissioner, Department of Woman and Child Welfare, Government of Telangana and Smt. B. Shailaja, Director, Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens and Transgender Persons, Government of Telangana were the guests of honor at the program. Sri M. Srinivasulu, State Advisory Member of Disability Rights Act Implementation Committee, Government of Telangana and a founder member of the Network of the Persons with Disability Organizations (NPdO) and Sri Nithin Sharma, Senior Director – Engineering of Qualcomm graced the occasion as a special guest. The event received widespread coverage with representatives of more than 30 media outlets participating in it.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sudhakar Pennam, the founder and CEO of Solunus Inc. said, “We earnestly believe children with hearing and speech-related problems deserve to have the same opportunities to learn and grow as any other normal child. Unfortunately, less than 10% of students with hearing challenges who have completed Class 10 only are pursuing intermediate courses. Even more disturbing is the fact that only 2-5% of students with impaired hearing in our country have access to university education.”
“One of the key challenges in delivering quality education and training to these students is inadequate special learning facilities,” said Mr. Pennam. “This is further complicated by abysmally-low number of skilled trainers in sign language, considering the huge number of students with disabilities.”
“This problem can be resolved effectively using technology-assisted learning programs. We’ve partnered with the creators of E Sign Meta app, a novel e-learning solution for children with hearing and speech problems, to provide the tablets as part of our efforts to help kids with disabilities get access to good education. We will further collaborate with the developers of the app in the coming days to provide 50 more tablet computers and ensure their solutions reach more students with special learning needs,” he added.
