Solunus for the Community – Playing Our Part for a Better Tomorrow

It’s often said childhood is the greatest gift of life, and rightly so. Unfortunately, hundreds of millions of children across the world don’t have the privilege of enjoying this amazing gift – acute poverty and other social and economic challenges result in many little ones being deprived of education, health, and most importantly, nutritious food. Most of these disadvantaged citizens of tomorrow work in horrendous conditions and are subjected to untold hardships.

What can be done to resolve this grave problem? Can any one individual or a single organization help overcome the challenge of malnutrition among kids and provide education to all? The answer is no – this is a mammoth problem and cannot be obviated by a person or a company. But, we can make a considerable difference by joining hands, and out of this spirit of collaboration emerged the Pledge 1% movement.

What Is the Pledge 1% Movement?

Pledge 1% is an international program, spearheaded by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, to facilitate effective cooperation between various organizations for creating a better, happier tomorrow. More than 2,700 businesses across 60 countries are active members of the corporate philanthropic movement.

How Does Solunus Collaborate with the Pledge 1% Program?

Solunus is a proud member of the Pledge 1% program and actively participates in various activities organized by it. The employees and the management team of the Dallas, Texas based Salesforce partner volunteer 1% of their time to help underprivileged sections of the community. “We launch various initiatives to support the underserved,” said Sudhakar Pennam, the CEO of Solunus Inc. and the Pennam Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that works for the upliftment of the poor. “Our collaboration with the Pledge 1% movement allows us to understand the society’s needs better, and this helps us serve the downtrodden better.”

What Are the Programs Launched by Solunus to Serve the Less Fortunate?

Over the last several years, we have partnered with various philanthropic organizations and non-profits to help the poor and those in need. We’ve launched many programs in association with the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), an organization dedicated to alleviating hunger. We also work with Nethra Vidyalaya, a school for the visually challenged in Visakhapatnam, India and Save the Child Foundation, an organization rendering yeoman service to improve the conditions of orphans and destitute children.

Working with NTFB to Provide Nutritious Meals to Needy Kids

Team Solunus actively supports the efforts of the NTFB in Dallas. Our people enthusiastically volunteer to provide healthy food to financially-disadvantaged children. Recently, we launched a program to pack 6500 nutritious meals to poor kids. “We feel very blessed to help these little ones – their happy smiles make us feel truly gratified,” said one of the members of the team who participated in the program. “Our CEO always encourages us to help the underprivileged, and this motivates us to do our part for the community.”

Collaborating with Nethra Vidyalaya to Provide Food to Differently-abled Children

Our association with Nethra Vidyalaya goes back to several years. Members of our team take an active part in various programs to provide food to the children of the school. A few months ago, our employees volunteered to serve food (three nutritious meals) to the students at the school. “We felt very gratified when the wonderful and happy children thanked each of us,” said Shashidhar Chandrasekharuni, the manager of our company’s branch in Visakhapatnam. “The love and affection showered on us by the kids is something to cherish for long. We plan to launch more programs for the kids of Nethra Vidyalaya in the coming days.”

Extending Active Support to Save the Child Foundation

We’ve been providing monetary support to various programs of Save the Child Foundation. Our company works with the non-governmental organization to further the cause of educating orphans and improving the conditions of destitute children. “While we understand we can’t help all underprivileged children, we’re glad to be able to make a real difference in the lives of at least some,” said a member of our staff who participated in an event organized by Save the Child Foundation. “The satisfaction we get by knowing that our contribution has helped realize the dreams of young ones is priceless. We hope to do more for poor and abandoned kids.”

The main focus of our organization’s initiatives for the community has been on tackling the problem of hunger and malnutrition among children. However, this does not prevent us from supporting other philanthropic efforts. “Companies can make a major contribution to the cause of the underprivileged, especially the destitute old and those in need of medical care,” said Pennam. “The support of the corporate world will go a long way in improving the lives of these less fortunate people.”

How Does Solunus Plan to Take Its Initiatives for the Community Forward?

We’ll continue to collaborate with the Pennam Foundation and other philanthropic organizations that work for our society. “We believe in working together, and meaningful cooperation between various firms can play a major role in combating the challenges faced by the poor,” said Pennam. “We intend to launch more volunteer-driven initiatives for the community and work on aspects where we can make effective contributions. So, stay tuned to our blog and social media handles.”
